The new XS server offers multiple SD and HD codec configurations with native support, for faster and easier media exchange with post-production.

XS can easily be managed with Insio and the IPDirector, EVS’ studio software applications designed to fulfil a wide range of production workflows. XS can also be controlled by third-party tools, such as automation systems, linear or hybrid editors, switchers, and controllers.

Main capabilities:

• Multichannel SD & HD Ingest 
  XS production server ingests up to 4 video channels and 16 audio tracks per video channel (up to 64 audio tracks in total). It can control the ingest of any audio, video, or graphics input from various sources, including cameras, satellite feeds, craft editors, graphics software, and video recorders.

• Synchronized & Instant Playback
  XS gives immediate playback control for live productions, as well as playlists, clips, graphics, logos, and edits. Fully synchronized playback offers maximum security for playback on large screens or multiple screens.

• Control & Transfer While Recording
  XS lets operators create clips, make playlists, produce rough edits, transfer content to post-production, and record all at the same time.

  Any media (audio or video) recorded by the XS are available across the production network for any operators while the recording process is still running. Standard gigabit Ethernet allows direct file transfer or streaming to post-production. And EVS’ XNet[2] Media Sharing Network (SDTI) is dedicated to live production network access.

• Powerful Integration with Post-Production
  XS natively supports multiple SD and HD codecs for media transfer with encoding/ decoding processes, so it is faster and quality is easily preserved. For SD: IMX, MJPEG; for HD: Avid DNxHD®, Apple ProRes 422, MJPEG, MPEG2 i-frame (DVCPro HD coming soon). XS offers optimal integration with traditional linear editing workflows as well.

• EVS Software Control
  EVS offers a choice of solution packages. For studio productions EVS recommends two different software applications.

Insio : The combined XS-Insio solution is the best choice for TV programs, allowing producers to control all of the angles recorded on multiple cameras, manage camera reviews, create clips, and transfer material to various destinations such as post-production.

• SNMP
  The SNMP protocol is implemented on the XS server. All the parameters of the production server can be centrally monitored through EVS’ dedicated client, or into existing SNMP monitoring platforms: server status, channel configuration, disk failure, remaining capacity, etc.

• Third-Party Control
  XS guarantees perfect integration with third party tools, so that files can easily be exchanged in any type of production workflow. XS accepts the most popular control protocols (including VDCP, AVSP, Odetics, Sony BVW, as well as Thomson XtenDD-35) for easy control by third party tool such as switcher, controllers.
